His Excellency Sayid al-Qaid Muqtada al-Sadr (may God preserve him) issues statement on recent events and announces his preparedness to coordinate with the governmental bodies in the formation of the (Peace Companies) to defend the holy sites.
After all these reckless policies that have emerged from here and there, and after the Sunnis of Iraq fell between two jaws, the jaw of the terrorists and extremists and the jaw of the undisciplined militias, and after the inciting of the flame of sectarianism between the Sunnis and the Shi’a of Iraq, and the eruption and spread of what will have dire consequences, and in the midst of this all the dark forces were preparing to swoop on the victims of the erroneous, sectarian and blind decisions.. for it is a foreign group which has begun to occupy some of the places of beloved Iraq.. which is now a captive in their hands, who have no devotion, no religion and have only terrorised all with their bombs and beheadings and terrorising civilians amidst the bewilderment and silence that remains from the government… After those of the government wasted all the opportunities to prove their fatherly care, so it is that we see Iraq bleeding as never before.
In view of our previous experience, and our performance of our duty at that time, whether in resisting the occupation or pushing some of the terrorists who desecrated the shrines, mosques, and churches, which produced a pause from negative reactions…[…] and in view of preserving the bonds of Iraq and its mosaic [of ethnic/sectarian groups] if is not my intention to incite the people of Iraq to conflict, as has been done by some of the misguided policies… However, I am not able to stand idle with hands and tongue tied in the face of the expected danger to the holy sites, by which I mean: (all the shrines, the mosques, the hussainias, the churches, and temples of worship without exception)… Therefore, myself, and those with me from amongst the faithful will be steadfast in promise, will not be deceived by worldly things, money and cars, and will not listen to rumours against the truth, those who if we ask for silence will be silent, or if we talk will obey… I am fully prepared to coordinate with government bodies to form (The Companies of Peace) to defend the holy sits mentioned above… on condition that they will not engage in this defence except temporarily and as part of the official security corps […] and not through spontaneous enrolment which causes many of the problems… before God, I am not prepared, not before God or my beloved people, to fight a battle of gangs and dirty militias which do not distinguish between the terrorist and those who fear the terrorist and seek salvation, I am not prepared, at all, to be [….] and cast myself into a sectarian, internecine war […………….] as they did the first time. It is incumbent on those that follow us (with kindness) to improve the behaviour and remain alert to the issues and decisions and not to distort our reputation which is, by God, one of greatness. For all know that if we intervene it will not be the fate of Samara, Salah ad Din, Mosul, Anbar or any inch of Iraq to which [the terrorists?] have arrived. For we that have been under the darkness of destruction and the fire of the occupation and car bombs of the terrorists, our response has been organised to target the innocent before the guilty, for our morals are the impeccable.
We ask God Almighty to protect Iraq and unite its people in truth, and fend off the shadow of sectarianism and its monsters by the truth of Muhammad and his infallible family.
