Sayyid Safai, explains what makes a successful politician: he brings together the people of the country and exerts his efforts to help them and preserve the identity of Iraq and does not distinguish amongst Iraqis.
The representative of the Marja’iya [Sistani], Sayyid Ahmed Safi addressed the following issues in his sermon at Friday prayers which were held at the Imam Hussein Shrine in Holy Karbala.
The security situation and huge challenges through which the country is going, and the effort exerted by the security forces and the volunteers and the ardent tribes calls on the brother politicians to take advantage of this effort in order to overcome the crisis and the blood is has combined the blood of Iraqis for this noble, national, moral and religious purpose, all components participate in it, but it also threatens all components.. This blood is righteous in the service of the country, and there is nothing for valuable that can be offered than blood; so it is incumbent on the politicians to unify the discourse and vision and come together in one position, overcome the superficial differences and try to create openness between them stand in solidarity together to engage in debate in a culture of exchange, shunning negative thinking and scepticism in everything… For it is not sensible for a country like this, stuck in political conflicts and economic problems and lack of development and delay in most of the processes of reform, and persistent security threats at the gates and inside the cities, and the displacement of tens of thousands from many cities.. any observer of the events in Iraq, would say that the politicians all carry the responsibility for what happens in Iraq, for despite the effects of external interference, recent and in the past, or internal effects, the responsibility lies on the shoulders of the Iraqi politicians, for it is they who can diagnose what will benefit the country and what will damage it.
We see the necessity of the brothers beginning to find radical, and ultimate solutions to most the problems which complicate the security and political and economic scene, yet still we can for ridding ourselves of the spirit of rivalry, antagonism and insult amongst them, and pursuing the spirit of acceptance and love and flexibility.
Reviewing closely all the positions which have passed by us, and analyse them, wherever they came from, must distinguish between the good and the bad; and review the external positions, were these damaging interventions in the country or useful? Did these interventions support a particular side or other? What was the goal of them, and who benefits?
The successful politicians is one who brings the people together in love and defence of the country… the successful politician is one who exerts his effort in order to help the people and improve their standard of living… the successful politician is one who preserves the identity of the country and does not distinguish between its people and deals with the problems in the spirit of paternal responsibility.
Oh dear brothers, we believe in the ability of the officials to overcome the crisis and we believe in the courage of the people of this country, who have a shining history in preserving its honour, whether in the past or the present in which we live, and we believe in the dignity of the people of the Iraq in the face of the humanitarian problems which some face… When we call on the people to help one another in the problems which need support, such as supporting the displaced persons for example, for it is a matter of affirming the dignity of the our people, …
When we call on the political officials there is a responsibility placed on their shoulders that is greater than this, securing the country, worship, advancement in the reality of the country and investment of its riches and energies, and providing a dignified life for its people, and providing an atmosphere of fellowship and love and solving the problems through constructive dialogue and seeking the preserve the unity of the country and unite the ranks of its people and not being preoccupied with side issues, to raise the spirit of citizenship amongst the people, the legitimacy of the laws and necessity of overseeing their implementation, and other political tasks without exception.
