Sayyid Sistani condemns the aggression in Adhamiya and calls for the rebuilding of the institutions of the Iraqi army according to international standards and rules.

The Marja’iya [al-Sistani] condemned the attacks which happened in the area of Adhamiya last Wednesday night and praised the speedy measures through which the security forces responded by surrounding the recent events in Adhamiya and called for devising a comprehensive plan for rebuilding the institutions of the Iraqi army in accordance with the standards and professional rules for military institutions in other countries.

The representative of the Marja’iya (al-Sistani) Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalai’, said during the second Friday sermon on the 15th May 2015: As we express our intense condemnation and deep regret with what happened with the attacks on the Adhamiya on the night of the previous Wednesday, we indicate that it is hoped that the political leaders and media will deal with events like this with the level of national and religious responsibility required by the critical and exceptional circumstances of the country which faces the terrorist Da3sh who target all without exception.

He added: ‘There are a number of attacks which continue to occur in Baghdad and elsewhere which targeting innocent citizens and resulting in many victims, seeking blind revenge or to incite sectarian strife. It is assumed that everyone will with what is happening with awareness and wisdom and will shun duplicity and being dragged by emotion and provocative discourse which can sometimes be seen in hasty accusations under sectarian titles and seeking to agitate one component against another.

The critical situation in Iraq, and especially in the mixed areas where different various components of the Iraqi people live together, requires that we work to the utmost that we are able to preserve the peaceful and constructive coexistence in peace and harmony amongst these components.

The Marja’iya praised the rapid measures engaged by the security forces to fence off the recent events and indicated that this is a cause for optimism that the security forces will stand firm in the face of any efforts to incite strife and will act with the professionalism appropriate to their national and religious responsibility.

The Marja’ya called for studying the causes which led to the fall of Mosul and the rest of the cities now in the hands of the gangs of Da3sh in June of the previous year and what followed this in terms of the great sacrifices of the Iraqi people and the bleeding of much of the funds and resources in the confrontation with these gangs to fend off their danger… and the Marja’iya made clear that the study calls on the relevant bodies to put in place a complete plan for rebuilding the institutions of the Iraqi army to the standards and professional rules of the military institutions in other countries. This means choosing competent nationalist leaders for the various positions, and shunning favouritism and patronage based on belonging to narrow circles of loyalty to the people or nation, and working to exclude the political affects of blocs and parties on the military institution completely.

It is also important that the security organs take the right approach and are built a correct, professional basis so that they are able to perform their role in the success of the military institution, which calls for the necessity of all the forces fighting the terrorists to take the initiative in this stage and coordinate their efforts and to transcend factional and personal interests. This is the most important condition in the success and victory of the military.
